#AskAMan Things fathers and sons can do together
These days we spend less and less time together with social media and technology driving a wedge between parents and children. This is why, we have decided to share our ideas of things fathers and sons can do together.
Reconnect beside a dam
What moment can be better to bond than the one over fishing rods while waiting for something to bite? Fishing provides a peaceful environment in which to reconnect and South Africa has some of the most stunning places in which to do so. Here are some ideas of places you can go.
Albert Falls Dam – KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg
Bloemhoek Dam – Free State, Kroonstad
Grootdraai Dam – Mpumalanga, Standerton
Hartbeespoort Dam – North West, Hartbeespoort
This isn’t just a brilliant thing fathers and children can do together but an opportunity for the whole family to spend some quality time together. Gather around a warm fire and share some stories while roasting marshmallows and sipping on a mug of hot cocoa.
Dolphin Caravan Park – Ballito, KZN
MacNicol’s – Bazley Beach, KZN
Beaverlac – Porterville, Western Cape
Grootvadersbosch – Heidelberg, Western Cape
Nothing screams manly than racing around a track at terrible speeds. The Kyalami Kart Circuit track runs approximately 843 metres allowing both father and son to put their skills to the test! Here are a few tracks you can go to get your adrenaline fix.
Xtreme Indoor Karting – Johannesburg
Kyalami Kart Circuit – Zwartkops Raceway, Pretoria
Watch a sports match together
Rugby, cricket or soccer, take the kids and make a day of it. Braai a couple of boerewors rolls and enjoy the spirit, unity and camaraderie that swells in the stadium. Here are some of the next matches taking place. Don’t miss out.
Friday 1 July: Chiefs vs Crusaders
Saturday 2 July: Rebels vs Stormers
Cheetahs vs Force
Saturday 9 July: Bulls vs Sunwolves
Sharks vs Cheetahs
Have a braai, but an unusual one
Here’s an idea, sit together and find a nice braai recipe you haven’t ever braaid before, get the ingredients and make something succulent and delicious for the family together. Throw in a grilled dessert and make a meal of it. Alternatively you can have a braai-off between mum and yourselves and invite the entire family to judge.
There are some truly exceptional craft beer haunts hidden around the country. Don’t think jobs and college are good excuses to escape some quality time together. Drive to a nice craft beer restaurant and indulge in South Africa’s finest beer and cuisine. Here a few of our favourite craft beer picks.
Banana Jam Café – Kenilworth, Cape Town
Darling Tasteroom – Caledon, Darling
Wild Clover – Wild Clover Farm, Stellenbosch
Beer House – Long Street, Cape Town
Go on a Road Trip with Greyhound
There are just a few spectacular things fathers and sons can do together. However, the best way to bond is on a Greyhound bus off to a fantastic holiday destination or to one of these places mentioned above. Strengthen your bond and let us worry about getting you around safely and comfortably. You can view our route map here.
