Best places to go when you are feeling charitable
It goes without saying that the amount of people and organisations doing good out there are too many to count, this article would turn into a 100 part series. We’ve decided to list a few organisations you can support if you wish.
Again, these are but a few amazing charities out there, you simply have to make a change, no matter how big or small. This article should be seen more as a tribute, a thank you to everyone out there making a difference. Greyhound salutes you.
FEED (Feed, Empower, Educate, Develop), Johannesburg
Apart from feeding people through food drives, FEED aims to empower children across Johannesburg through education and assistance. They raise funds for different causes one example being a fundraiser to build classrooms at the Adelaide Tambo School for disabled kids.
Durban Child and Youth Care Centre, Durban
This organisation caters for children between the ages of two and eighteen. They care for children who are unable to live with their biological families for a number of reasons. Those who take care of them aim to create a safe and warm environment for the kids. They welcome donations of any kind, especially in terms of food, and they do welcome volunteers.
You are welcome to spend a day walking or washing the pets living at FORA, if your heart can stand it that is. The organisation takes in pets without homes and save animals from traumatising circumstances. They and their furry residents rely heavily on the help of volunteers.
Trinity Clinic, Johannesburg
A group of medical students established the clinic in 2004 who identified a desperate need for healthcare among the homeless. They’ve joined hands with the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Braamfontein and run a weekly soup kitchen along with free access to healthcare and social workers.
