Get Vaccinated
Although many of us tend to avoid needles, experts believe this is the best way to avoid the flu as it is designed to protect you against flu strains. The ideal time to get your shot is during autumn.
Wash your hands regularly
Albeit obvious, a surprising number of us forget this step. An easy way to keep your hands clean and germ free is by carrying a bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag or sanitizing wipes. Wipe down surfaces you touch regularly. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.
Load up on Vitamin C
Vitamins, especially of the C variety, work wonders in boosting your immune system. Drink a lot of fresh orange juice and try to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables. You can drink supplements if necessary in order to boost your system.
Get regular exercise
In order to fight viruses you need to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Regular exercise does not only help you get those legs you’ve always desired but helps build up your body against germs that cause illnesses.
Don’t smoke and drink excessivelyÂ
Bad habits such as smoking and excessive drinking breaks down your body’s immunity and make one susceptible not only to the flu but a multitude of other health issues. Visit a doctor to help you quit smoking and avoid heavy drinking. This ultimately contributes to living a healthier lifestyle.
Stay Warm
Although the weather as is cannot cause the flu, hanging out in cold temperatures or swimming does make it worse if you are already infected with the germ. So no, standing in the cold air with wet hair is not going to get you a day off school but if you are infected, a simply flu can turn into pneumonia.
